RandomNothingNessOfTheIrrelevantKind

I have nothing but everything to write. No direction, no inspiration, nadda, zilch, blank. So, in spite of that, I will type until something breaks through the red tape of my mental blockage.  Sometimes that mentality works, other times it's just an example of pure crap. (Kinda like what I've just written) Does anyone else wander around with a million thoughts, ideas, stories, yet are unable to form a simple sentence to wrap everything into one destination? Yes? No? Freaky? Oh help me, I'm in a mood........
~~
So I've seen various mentions for the VIVI awards. I read hints and such about controversy, but haven't read anything with specifics. Which is fine, I've never mingled in the political agenda that is sometimes found within this community. So this morning I thought I would visit nominated journals and exercise my journalgivenrightsofvoting. I suppose the issue I'm having would be like going to the voting booths on the 7th and blindly punching chads without knowing what any of the politicians stood for. For the most part I know nadda, zilch, a tiny example of those journal writers. Ok, fine, I got time and some writer blockage, I'll visit, gather some inspiration, bask in the writing of others and gleefully go vote for my newfound favorite journals. Starting with what would be my natural favorite categories. Yes, well, allrighty then....aren't personal tastes a bitch sometimes. Moving on. (ok, I just don't get it on some certain things, just does not compute, ekk this does not sound good)

Last year I knew the majority of the journals. Does that mean back then I was in the 'group' and this year I am a nobody, a social outcast, who's completely outta the loop? Did an entire population of new writers come along, start a new school and I've been left back in grade school, clueless like? I think I really need to get up to speed. I just need to find a few extra hours in the day to investigate the new school.

I was happy to see a few journals I know in a few of the catagories, journals that are really good ones at that.....yessss...I get to vote. And what's the deal with private journals in this mix? Isn't the point of private being the definition of no access unless invited? Doesn't that kinda exclude alotta peeps, like me? Are we supposed to askfor invites? Hell, if thats the case, I would like an invitation to each and every private journal out there. Yep, that would be very cool............in the name of investigation of course.

If your here, reading my words, and you've been nominated for somethin' let me know k, leave a brochure on my doorstep, list your qualifications, party affiliations and your promises I'll expect to see while you hold office. Alittle bribery always helps, so I've heard. I like paper, pens, stamps, books, and slush money always works, non-sequential order please.

~~

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Or more importantly, if someone remains silent and doesn't choke out their truths, are they lying to those who ask to hear the truth? Guilt by silent omission style?

~~

Jehovah's Witness peeps came to my home yesterday to explain the phenomenon of 'false religion' to me. I was bored, needed distraction and let them come in, a pop quiz style of debate (is how I looked at it) I'm not sure if their God was keeping score, but I believe I held my own. I've been in a bit of a confrontational mood this week, God shoulda warned em.' 45 minutes later it was deemed I was a hopeless heathen and I deemed them courageous messengers. It was jolly good fun.

~~

The squirrels in my backyard are winning the war on my outdoor furniture. So far, they've ripped open 2 more cushions and padded up their winter nests like cozy cotton mansions. I'm not amused. Retaliation: I will withhold their nut smorgasbord for exactly one week. The neighbor will have to make up for my depravation tactics. I left my Jehovah's' Witness pamphlets in their food box, they can pad their nests with 'true religion.'

~~

My Mother always said, "If your (you're) in a bad mood, don't take it out on everyone else" I'm certain she meant voice.....she never mentioned writing.................

~~

I'm thoroughly irritated with the book choices I've chosen lately. I need heart. I need connection. I need writing that delights my reading senses instead of creating a yawn of frustration. I need something that makes me laugh out loud and cry in all the right places. I need something..........anything.........that makes me stay up until 3:00 a.m. because I simply cannot stand the thought of putting it down for the evening. Is there NO book out there that can do this for me???????? Anyone? Suggestions? Reviews? Hell, I'll take a bodice ripping, Fabio influenced, pulsating crush of words if it has the ability to entertain me at this point in time. Yes, I'm that desperate for decent literature. If anyone suggests the Bible I may toss you on the food box with the pamphlets and rats with fluffy fur coats.

~~

I was trying to solve the meaning of life the other day. I'll have to get back to you on that one.

~~

I'm ready for that slush money now. Unmarked of course.

(P.S. Congrats to Dan, Raven, Kate, Gerry, Fred for your nominations!!!! A twenty will do, or a stamp or two) There is no doubt I believe you deserve the awards~~ If I missed any of my other friends who have been nominated let me know!)

<looks to the left>.... <looks to the right>.... <checks behind the trees and sees only rats in fur coats <g>>... Look I'm going to fill you in on a guilty little secret. When I can't seem to find anything to read that holds my interest I have a <checks over shoulder again and whispers> a favorite author who writes... Historical fiction. Yes, I know <hangs Head> But, in my defense, she has a novel idea, a cast of characters you come to care about and she writes well! Her name is Diana Gabaldon. Start with Outlander. <sneeks off back to the sci-fi/fantasy shelf before anyone can learn her scary little secret>

In my defense, the heroine is a time traveler... so it's kind of sci-fi/fantasy based.. sorta <eg>

I agree with you.
I just recently started journaling back at AOL (privately) but my blogger blog is my true love.  I didn't know hardly anyone who was nominated--But the few I did, I voted for.  I just made the rounds & made the best picks possible.
Hope you have a good weekend.
Hugs,
Heather

Well I only started blogging this year, and am still finding journals everyday. Thanks so much for saying I deserve an award for my journal. In writing it I am educating myself!!!
You must be hormonal at the moment - your mood is just like my PMT (LOL!!) Have you read Conn Iggulden's Emperor series? It certainly kept me up all night!!! But reading is such a personal experience, so I don't know what to suggest to you!
Have a good weekend,
Kate.

For this type 'blahs', no one can beat Agatha Christie. Love her! Engrosing. Fun. And even if I have read "Murder on the Oriet Express" 76 times, I STILL can't remember who dun it! Relax, read, and don't sprain your brain.

I hope you don't mind if I say I thoroughly enjoyed you entry-light hearted and fun. Make no matter-we have these days!! Hope you have better rest of the weekend!!

I know exactly what you mean when you say you need a good book to read.  I was lucky enough to find John Hershey's last works, a book of short stories, called Key West Tales, for 25c in my thrift store. (writer of Hiroshima and Bell for Adono, an old guy of my era) The first story I read called "Get up, Sweet Slug-a-bed" was so good, I can't believe my luck will hold with the rest of this book.  This story was about a part time professor who is dying with AIDS and the nurse a good friend hires to take care of him who turns out to be an abuser! Imagine.  He beats up the guy so badly when he is in the last stages, that he nearly kills him, but is finally found out from all the bruises and fired.  Both are gay.  I mean this was life, one of the best short stories I have read in recent years.  The compassion is in the horror of his friends when they find out what he has been going through. Well, you got to hand it to Hershey.  The mastery is in the quality of the writing, the gift for detail that makes the story so believable.  Gerry

Great...  Looks like I'll have to write a book to keep you until 3 AM.  I'll call it "Insomnia for Dummies."

Thanks for the nod, pretty lady.  Remind me to send you some stamps.

Aside from that, I'm glad I'm not a voting Potatohead named Chad.  Something tells me you've probably got a nasty uppercut, and I'm rather fond of my teeth.

Hello........I so love reading the entries in your journal. I think you are an amazing writer. You often give me lots to think about. I voted already in the ViVi awards. I have come across some new journals but I haven't left any of my favorites like yours. Your journal is still a top journal for me like that of Jeannette's Jottings so don't worry you still got it. My journal is not one that would deserve a nomination I'm not all that great of a writer not in the least. I think the squirrels in my neck of the woods have gone underground in search of warmth it seems. Everything is going into hididing even the butterflies that were in Georgia just a few days ago. I don't have the meaning of life either let me know when you do. By the way e.e. Cummings is one of my favorite poets. I like the one you shared in your entry it was put in my very 1st hand-written journal.

Thanks for sharing your amazing writing with all of us at J-Land. Don't ever change. Take care.

damn moods... I think there's something in the air...  Love the entry though!  I try to stay out of all the VIVI controversy, but I feel for the people who are so tightly wrapped up in it.  I have more than enough drama in my life already!

I didn't get nominated this year. Seems they decided to drop the "Only Canadian Journal We Can Find" category. A lot more journalers from the UK hanging about this year, too. It's nice to see words spelled properly now and again.

~~

I'm pretty sure I've seen that poem by Cummings before, but I just spent a couple of minutes decyphering it, and...wow. It's amazing how just one word (or four) can be so evocative.

~~

Anything by Guy Gavriel Kay. If you are a classic fantasy fan, try The Fionavar Tapestry (The Summer Tree, The Wandering Fire, and The Darkest Road). If you would like something a little less Tolkienesque, try his other, stand alone novels. My favourite is Tigana, although the concensus in the Kay fan community is that The Lions Of Al Rassan is his best. It is currently being developed as a movie script, as well.  Kay's books are among a bare handful that are capable of putting a lump in my throat and a glisten in my eye.

~~

Let us know how you make out with that meaning of life thing (hint: I'm thinking it's not really "42").

~~

  A minor pedantic aside - It's *you're*

~~

I believe the group of ViVi nominees is somewhat reflective of the journalers who are running the show. Not that they are - intentionally or otherwise - influencing the voting. Rather that they have a different group of enthusiastic regular readers than last year's organisers.

How'd I do with the ol' stream of consciousness commenting theme?

I had this thought the other day- Ignorance could have been bliss....or an empty excuse for a conscious..........

I thought this would be interesting to write about..the dynamics of not knowing and how easy it its to miss what is ugly...and yet...searching inward creates other problems..sight...has to have compassion...otherwise...the heart evolves with surprises.........What do you think?......

This was lovely...sounds like a good place to start a book...

My Mother always said, "If your (you're) in a bad mood, don't take it out on everyone else" I'm certain she meant voice.....she never mentioned writing.................

Actually, I really enjoyed this entry, even if you didn't have fun writing it.  The JW part was effing hilarious.  I wish you had recorded it for YouTube!

Yes, you can lie by omission.

Great post Rebecca!

An interesting little pot luck entry.  In what I understand of the JW cult beliefs, they earned a little higher place in heaven arguing with you.  So, I suppose you can consider it your good turn for the day?!?!?!  ;o)  -  Barbara

You let them in your house? Didn't you get the memo?  Their religion was going to fold at the end of the year since no one was answering their doors.
If you still want to feed the rats with designer jackets I say toss the nuts over the fence.  They get to eat and will visit your neighbors chairs instead.
If you like science fiction my favorite is 'Eisenhorn' by Dave Abentt.  Keep writing to get rid of that mental constipation.  The besy remedy. ~ Mike

Thanks for the compliment. Wish I could help you with the book, but the last decent book I read was The Kite Runner months ago and ever book since has been total crap. I find myself getting ticked now when the AOL journalers I frequent don't post for a couple days, checking their journals just in case the alerts have gotten fouled up somehow, "That damn Rebecca, why the hell hasn't she written anything lately?" recently went through my mind. If I come across an interesting book, I'll be sure to holler.

Jehovah's Witnesses don't consider anyone hopeless. It's nice to hear that you were open-minded enough to let them in. If you went round in circles for the whole 45 minutes, they may not be back, so as not to waste everyone's time, but hopefully, Jehovah will send someone when you're less bored and more interested in learning what the Bible says. maureen123@cox.net

You may have already read it, but White Oleander by Janet Fitch is what I am reading right now and I LOVE it.

Or how about Girl with the Pearl Earring by Tracey Chevalier?  I read this a while back and liked it so much I read all her others but didn't like any as much as this one.

Or Angela's Ashes, Frank McCourt.  This one is really old and I read a long time ago but I remember loving it, and who knows maybe you missed it.

Other titles I remember reading and liking:  Poisonwood Bibles, Black and Blue (Anna Quindlen), and oh yeah Time Line by Michael Creighton.

Oh and when I feel overwhelmed I read No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series.  She is so practical and good.
