Pain in the Ear, and Foot

Is it just awful to admit I am hiding in my office because it's music practice time in my house and well, sometimes it's enough to make a person grind their teeth. For that matter, how I ended up with two daughters, that are both drummers is beyond me. I believe this is what you call hindsight of Motherhood.

My eldest daughter is a tenor drummer. Thats some fancy shmancy drumming with a fine visual handwork thrown into the mix. My younger daughter is a snare drummer and well, you know, it's fun <in a loud sort of way> I am delighted they are both avid music lovers and do believe it will benefit them for years and years to come. And on that note, I will sigh with tolerant ears, and smile with Motherhood satisfaction <plus earplugs> and love music days as I should. Repeat as necessary...........

I put a nail through my foot today. Thats always a surprising feeling and sensation, and moment in a persons day. Straight through the New Balance tennis shoes, straight into the delicate arch of my foot. Once the nail had impaled through the many layers it had to go through to imbed itself into my foot I knew I had issues. The body is really a nice little device to make things not hurt while it happens, but first let the thoughts truly penetrate a mind.........."There is a nail through my foot"........before letting the pain sink in.

That is what I get for not sticking to good running trails and instead heading through thick undergrowth and unknown trailways. So, once the realization sets in, one must promptly sit down and take a look at the small board firmly attached to the bottom of ones foot. I did that. Didn't really enjoy it either. But since I didn't feel like walking out with a board attached to my foot, and I really didn't want to wait for a search crew, I did the horrendous thing, pulled it out on my own.

Once something like that is pulled out, then well, the mind really goes to town. I decided it wouldn't do me any good to take my shoe and sock off to assess the damage. All I wanted was the safety of my car. I'll spare the details, but let me tell you, it was a long hop and limp the whole way, complete with unmentionable sensations in my foot. Actually, I'll spare all the rest of the details, except the damn thing landed me a nice tetnusshot and that tickled about as much as the nail in my foot did.

My doctor has been with me since I was 20. He thinks I should have bubble wrap permanently wrapped around my body. The size of my medical file is the equivalent of 3 full size trees. When I come across people who say they have never broken a bone, or seen a doctor for anything other then a cold, I find myself astounded and wondering how is that possible??? How does one make it through life without multiple injuries? So that either makes me a klutz who should be wearing a proceed with caution sign, or someone who continually puts themselves in the path of possible danger. I'm not sure which one is the appropriate characteristic. I suppose, both...........

All right, enough hiding, I must go limp into the front room to smile, encourage and enjoy the sounds of drums pounding in my ears. I wish everyone a safe and secure day!

Ouch, ouch, ouch! I've done that very thing. And, it's usually thru a favorite pair of shoes! Last time I had something happen I had to get a tetnus shot too. The injury never even swelled up, but the tetnus shot????? That hurt way worse than the injury and I couldn't lift my arm up past my shoulder for DAYS!

YE-OUCH!  Hope you are feeling better.  Maybe the throbbing your foot will drum out the throbbing in your ears.  ~ Mike

Ohhh I'm so envious of your daughters (although I don't envy you much during practice time I'm sure)  I have always wanted to play the drums.  I am tone deaf.....can't sing a note on key, and never liked any instrument I tried (did the piano lessons as a kid, and tried the cello in jr. high - a bad choice since it was a 1 1/2 mile walk to the bus stop ....damn cellos are HEAVY)  Never have taken drum lessons but it's on my to-do list...until then, I'm one HELL of a dashboard drummer ;~)

And yes, owwwwie on the foot.  I did that once a few years back.  Was helping out at the annual cleaning party at the theatre guild I belonged to the day before New Years, stepped on a nail that went right through my shoe and sock and imbedded itself in my foot... Pulled it out and went to bed and woke up New Years morning with a black line runnin up the back of my leg past my knee......NOT good....make sure you get it taken care of!

I'm one of those 'never broken a bone' people.  Well, I'm quite sure I've broken a toe or two, but no cast or need for doctors.  I can relate to the music, Brayden has taken up trumpet.  Grin and bear, all the while encouraging.  He has expressed interest in the drums ::double cringe and shudder::.

Hope the foot heals quickly.  I'm betting, based on my own experience with tetnus shots, that it will take far longer to heal.  ;)

Oh can sympathize with you - sure that nail in your foot was one painful thing.  I know what you mean about klutzy, my husband named me "Lack of Grace" when we were going together and I've managed to live up to that title many times in our years of marriage, heck I dont fall down the stairs, I fall going up the stairs. LOL

Enjoy your darling drummers, at least when you can hear them, you know they aren't getting into things.

Hi Rebecca!  So sorry about your foot.  Pain is sometime the name of the game when one is frustrated, I know.  My son took drum lessons outside our home and practiced day and night.  For some reason, his persistance made me feel o.k. about the noise.  He has his own band now and plays every weekend plus teaches prospective drummers.  But, I don't know about two drummers!  You are to be congratulated with dealing with that!!  What a good mother you are.  Love, Nancy

My condolensces on the foot.  Hope it heals fast.  My last real accident shattered the humerus in my left arm and resulted in a metal plate, nine screws some wire and a scar I'm gonna cover with a tattoo some day.  All I really wanted was a pillow and an ambulance.  Paulette

PS Both of my drrummers were forced to use drum pads for most of their practicing.  They let me know for sure  how I cramped their style and was probably ruining their lives.  I assured them it was my job!

Just thinking about it hurts.  I can relate sort of.  They didn't give you the tetnus shot in your foot did they?

Ouch! I think that just gave me my daily dose of wincing.

We have drums and guitars and amps and the whole shebang here. I can identify with the "joyful" noise you are hearing. But, I don't think anything will ever compare to the time my little sister was learning to play the viola. OMG...that was awful.

Hope the foot heals nicely and quickly!

Oh Rebecca, I'm hate you had to experience such pain, but you actually made it sound like art in a way!  You make everything in life seem like art.  Guess that's just you and your wonderful attitude.  I did the same thing when I was younger in my grandpa's tobacco barn.  At least it did get me out of working in tobacco for a few weeks.  Hope you feel better.

OMG!  I hope you're okay!  And, that tetnus shot... ouch!  I had one, a tetnus shot, on Friday.  My doc thought I would benefit by having a booster shot...  my arm is still SORE!  Thank goodness these shots are good for 10 years!  Hope your foot is better soon.
