Today. I escaped with my girls.
Today, the weather astounded us all with near 70 degree weather! I threw off the business suit, tossed on the jeans, waders and off to the river.
I am lucky in this beautiful area I call home. We have our own slice of heaven right through the middle of town. It's less then 3 minutes from my house. When I can't escape the city, I find myself on this one special island romancing the time away, smiling over the memories of this place.
The girls are always happy to join me. The island is a paradise to explore, they often fish with me or search for little shellfish along the shore. We spend alot of time on this island we call our own. This is the first time I've made it to the island this year and much to the girls delight, there was a huge tree trunk beached in the sand. They climbed all around it, fished from it.
We didn't catch a single fish. I spent alot of my time teaching Kaitlyn flyfishing and she pronounced she decided what she would like for her birthday in a few short weeks. A flyrod. She's a natural, a fishaholic and I love teaching her all I know. Shelby is only semi-interested in fishing. She's much happier exploring the banks, looking for animals and interesting rocks. She's also my mini-photographer.
It was an ordinary day, that meant the world to me. I'd become so blinded by work and life's little hell's lately that I've let one of my passions fall to the wayside. It was the exact renewal I needed today. A touch of sunlight, the sounds of the river, the girls laughing and playing. Today was ordinary beautiful.

Sounds like quite an extraordinary ordinary day. Glad you and the girls had so much fun. I have had the yen to go fishing lately too. The Wal Mart store might be in my future, looking for a new roda nd reel after all. Paulette
I am extremely jealous! Growing up we spent our weekends fishing in the North GA rivers. Your pictures brought that back to me. Tho, I caught more trees while fly fishing so I stuck to the basic rod and reel. Thanks for sharing this, it brought back memories of wonderful times.
Sounds so beautiful, as indeed it was. Glad you enjoyed and got out there to do waht's in your heart, to share with your girls as well. Funny we take a break from the 'real world' to go to the 'real world' Happy you got the awesome opportunity! Cya, Kris
Sounds like a great day...and great pics too!

What a wonderful mom and person you are...would love to have you as a daughter or daughter-in-law. Although I do have three pretty special one's already. You write beautifully.....your daughters are adorable.

Most days I relish just being plain...those are usually the most enjoyable!! Glad you took off with the kiddos...looks like they had a blast! rose
Sounds like a great day to me! I cherish the "ordinary" days. :)
Wow! A piece of Heaven so close to your door! I am filled with envy!
We often dream of what it would be like to have huge amounts of wealth. All the money in the world will not buy you one single minute of time. Time is free! Time is for everyone! You have spent your time wisely...a day you will always cherish! Thanks for spreading the joyfulness! :) Marc :)
I don't want hear another thing about 70 degree weather! We are expecting another 2 ft of snow tomorrow! And we just had a foot Wed!!! Glad you had a good day! (bitch, mumble under my breath) :)
Yes, the weather has been beautiful here in Northern California. It is always good to get out with the girls and enjoy nature huh? I have had my girls out in the backyard helping me with the gardening. The sun has again came to kiss the earth and the skin of those in it! I love that the spring weather has finally came again....it was sooo missed. Can't wait to go camping here in a month or two. Maybe we can get some fishing in too. - Jessica
Sounds like a magical day! Your daughters are lucky.

Wow! I am so envious! We had snow flurries and clouds today! :( Oh well, Spring is supposed to be on the way soon, at least according to the calendar. LOL I am also envious of your little slice of heaven you have to take your girls off to! It is beautiful! But your entry did do something VERY important, and I do not say this lightly. We have been so busy, and stuck indoors with the bad weather, etc. that I haven't just simply taken the time to get out with my own daughters lately and have some "plain old fun"! Your entry made me miss that. I have been so caught up in the everyday things of LIFE to even think about the fun we could have if I just get a little "creative". You have inspired me today. Thank you!

You're right. Sometimes it's the simply days that are the best: The days when we aren't racing around frazzled trying to get a gazillion things done. Great pics. The water looks so beautiful and peaceful!
Looks like you guys had a great time. I`ve never been fly fishing, but I do like to cast for bass, and northern`s. Unfortunately our best fishing of the year is an annual trip to morthern Wisconsin, about 5 hrs up..........definitely more than 3 minutes.
I had to comment on this one - I can relate - I love to take my 2 girls (7 and 11) fishing. Unfortunately it is a long winter here in NH. Snow since last night - at least a foot so far. My dad taught me to fly fish when I was about 10 and I loved it. My oldest has tied a few of her own flies! Im fairly new at this so i don't know how to link you to my journal. I'll try to keep in touch!! Oh, and ramble all u want. That's what these pages are for!
sounds like a perfect day...love thep hotos!

Wish it was fishing season here! Ice fishing isn't nearly as fun, you freeze your tuckus off!

Oh... it was beautiful! Yard work called me, wishing I made it down to the river to join you! Great photos!
I can only say my jealousy is over-shadowed only by the pleasure I know this scene brings you. Oh, for a rod dangling from my hands.

Now this, is living! =O)
