Midnight Pipers

I risked life and limb to get this picture last night. It's never a good thing to flash a camera flash in the dark at a group of marching pipers. I had been warned not to do this. My Mother saw me getting my camera ready right before they started.

She said. "You'll blind us if you take a picture!"

To which I replied, <with a whiny voice of course> "This is an IMPORTANT night, tis the first time you've played your bagpipes since your surgery in November, I'm taking a picture."

She said, "Oh you and your sentimental moments."

To which I said, "You know it." and then snuck off into the crowd to prepare for the official blinding. And let me tell you, it was a BLINDING. I should have test flashed to know the true effects before hand. They didn't dress up last night like I thought they were going to, but sounded beautiful nonetheless. Because it was a sneak attack on my part, I didn't get a good angle and you really can't see my Mom in this picture <sad> but she is there, playing for the first time since her surgery <breast cancer, surgery in November and it was the breast that she has to hold her bagpipes against.>

Twas a good night. Vicky, I didn't find a nice strong dark male to knock out and drag across my threshold, so I'm hoping the dark coffee I toted home will have to do!!! But I had the coal with me, does that count??

I love bagpipes. I wish I could have heard them.

Sounds like the perfect night, Rebecca - I am happy for you and your mom.  And who needs a dark male when you have a nice strong cup of coffee and a dark piece of coal to keep you warm???  ;-)

Have a splendid 2005!

Great picture and I know it meant a lot to you (to risk life, limbs, and your mother's eyesight for! LOL.) Glad your Mom is alright and active again. Thanks for sharing.

I know exactly how you are with sentimental moments!  Some people just don't understand! Just like my mother in law when we celebrated Christmas...  I asked her to make copies for me and I'd pay for them, and what was her reply?...  Can't you just print them off of the computer?  Like I have time for that!  OR the money!  With my printer, and how picky I am about photo paper, it about costs less to have them made at WalMart!  They're just 26 cents a photo, and I pay nearly $1 a page for my photo paper which'll hold 2 normal size pictures.  Some people!  Thanks for stopping by my journal!

Love the picture....I can just imagine how thrilled you are to see your Mom playing those bagpipies after all she has been through. She is amazing to have the determination to do that with the pain she must be in. She must love playing. Aren't you just so proud of her???? :)

I love pictures too and always have my camera charged and ready to shoot. My family gets a little annoyed at me, but they know how I am.

Again..so proud of your Mom. I can just imagine how beautiful it sounded.

Hi !   Just wanted to say that your moms picture is an inspiration for two reasons, her overcoming a major health issue and also a women playing the bagpipes !!! That is great !   I have seen many parades and they have always been played by men, I love the bagpipes and have always wanted to learn how to play.  I am interested in learning when your mother and her freinds were taught the instrument and also how they came together, and also what the heck was the occasion  -that they were marching so late at night ?
Thanks for the strory!    Shar (tre777s---mother)
